Job – Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description:

1. Role Objective:

To develop the designs and engineering drawings of jobs by incorporating the contract specifications, client requirements and government regulations without compromising the constructability of these designs. To ensure the use of creative solutions in the design of jobs that reduce manpower requirements, cost and time.

Responsible for the training and development of subordinates.

2. Detailed Roles & Responsibilities: 

STRATEGIC

1) Considers creative solutions to job requirements that would reduce manpower requirements, cost, and time.

2) Considers creative solutions to job requirements that would distinguish Amana from other competitors.

3) Researches the market for advanced construction technologies and creative solutions that would improve the mechanical design.

4) Utilizes programs and designs to improve speed and efficiency of design duties.

5) Establishes Amana image as a leading design and build contractor in all industrial domains.

6) Ensures the design compatibility with authorities’ rules and regulations.

OPERATIONAL

1) Performs mechanical design and analysis.

2) For Design/Build contracts, coordinates the activities of the consultant, client, and Amana in order to develop the compliant design as per the client requirements and obtain the approval of the authorities in the shortest possible time frame and within the Job estimate developed by the Tendering department.

3) Interfaces with clients, consultants, and authorities to ensure the quick approval of drawings compliant with the job requirements and contract.

4) Checks and approves for the compatibility of the architectural, civil, MEP, and   steel/cladding drawings and designs (both in-house and third party) and ensures the resolving of any incompatibilities in coordination with the relevant parties.

5) Ensures the timely delivery of updated “Issued for Construction” drawings defined by the drawing log set by Engineering Manager.

6) Manages daily interactions with authorities to ensure the quick and delay-free issuance of all required permits.

7) Prepares drawing submittal log in line with the overall project schedule in coordination with the Planning function.

8) Provides As Built Drawings for jobs on a timely basis and as per the requirements of the Construction department.

9) Performs site visits as needed to compare designs with actual site practices as well as to improve knowledge of practical building practices.

10) Assists Cost Control function, as needed, in variation orders and reports the same to manager.

11) Develops and maintains a library of standard constructible details of least cost implications.

12) Assists the Engineering Manager in the completion of the Engineering section Mechanical Works of the End of Job Report.

13) Supports Tendering department by providing technical design and advice to minimize the cost to help securing projects.

14) Develops complex engineering drawings using Amana best industry standards and codes.

15) Develops the specifications.

16) Guides the subordinates for the detailed drawings.

17) Responsible to review the MEP coordination drawings and ensures compatibility with architectural and structural.

18) Analyses/raises technical queries during the design process.

19) Updates the requirements/regulations of the authorities.

20) Responsible for the Submission of the Design drawings / documents to the Authorities for the approval of the Design / Building Permit Services NOC’s and continues following the authority submission during the construction phase.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

1) Assists in the training and development of personnel in the Engineering function.

2) Responsible for the training and development of subordinates.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Management.
