These are all signs of a workplace where employees are not happy. CNN has listed 5 signs that indicate that you work in a workplace where you probably should not stay.
1. Staff turnover is high
If employees start and end every other day, it is generally a sign that people do not want to work there. Do you have many new colleagues who quit before they even have time to work at the company for a year? This indicates that they are simply not happy. It is also important to examine who quits – if it is an employee without high-ranking managerial positions, it is a sign that the workplace is not particularly pleasant.
2. Employees are afraid of the boss
There is a difference between feeling a certain fear of the boss because the person has a lot of responsibility and influence, and actually being really afraid of the boss and what the person might do. Ask yourself if you and your colleagues trust your boss. Are you safe in the boss’ presence or are you worried about making him angry? If so, the boss is probably not very good at his job.
3. Everyone goes home immediately at 5 pm
At a good workplace, employees are not desperate to go home immediately at 5 pm. When the employees are happy, they do not have to constantly check the clock to see how much time is left until it is time to go home, although of course, it happens sometimes. If you feel that you want to let go of everything you have and quickly get out of work so as not to stay a minute too long after you quit, maybe you should think about how well you really enjoy what you do.
4. Colleagues do not socialize
Happy and satisfied colleagues talk to each other. Even if you are more stressed than usual on certain days, you can still talk and laugh with your colleagues at the coffee machine and at lunch. If the employees at your job rarely talk to each other and can barely smile or say “Good morning” when they come in, they probably do not think it is particularly fun to go to work. Of course, not all colleagues need to be best friends, but do you want to work in an office full of people who treat each other like strangers?
5. You just give and give (but never get anything back!)
If your workplace constantly sets high standards and asks you to do more than what can actually be demanded of you, it is not a fair treatment. It’s even worse if you never get anything back. Never getting a “Good job!”, A bonus or something else that shows that you have done a good job is not good for your development.
