Gender equality in the Arab countries takes 100 years to be achieved … Where are the Arab countries from it?

It seems that most of us will not live to witness the day when gender equality may be achieved around the world, as according to a new study released by the World Economic Forum, it is expected that this will happen in about 100 years.

The annual Global Gender Gap Report issued by the Forum ranked Iceland as the best country in terms of Gender equality in the Arab countries. for the 11th year in a row, followed by neighboring countries from the north, Norway, Finland and Sweden, while Syria, Pakistan, Iraq and Yemen were ranked at the lowest in the list, respectively.

Gender Equality

The United Arab Emirates topped the list of Arab countries in terms of gender equality in the Arab countries., followed by Kuwait and Tunisia. However, the road ahead for the Arab region is still long, as each of the three countries that topped the list of Arab countries came in the 120th, 122nd, and 124th places on the global rankings.

The report analyzed 153 countries in their progress towards gender equality, focusing on 4 main axes: economic participation, educational attainment, health and continuity, and political empowerment.

The report stated that this year focused on the need to take differential steps, adding that “at the current rate of change, achieving equality will take nearly a century, a timetable that we cannot simply accept in the globalization in which we live, especially among the younger generations who adopt increasingly progressive views about Gender equality in the Arab countries.”.

Report

Some axes have witnessed remarkable progress, as, for example, 35 countries have achieved gender equality in the field of educational attainment, and all remaining countries are expected to achieve this within the next 12 years, which is largely due to recent developments in developing countries. According to what the report said.

Women’s health and sustainability have also witnessed significant improvement, with 48 countries surveyed achieving near-complete equality between men and women in this area.

However, there is still a long way to go for the remaining axes, as the participation rates and economic opportunities available to women have decreased this year, as only a “handful” of countries achieved gender equality, and the world still needs another 257 years to achieve this completely. According to the report’s authors, about half of adult women participate in the labor market, compared to 78% of men.

Likewise, the case of political representation, as the gender gap in this area is still large as well, as no country has been able to completely close the gap, and at the global level, it will take about 95 years to reach equality in the field of political representation.

The report says that if the four axes were taken into account and looked at countries that have a set of positive attitudes towards gender equality. It would take 99 years and a half to achieve full gender equality around the world.
