Job Title – NICU Staff Nurse – (2200001P) Jobs in Al-Khuzama – Saudi Arabia

Responsibilities:

  • Performs a systematic initial and ongoing assessment of the patient’s physical and psychosocial status, specific to the age of the patient.
  • Assesses patient/family discharge planning needs, educational needs, and readiness to learn utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Collaborates with the patient/family and other members of the health care team to develop and update a plan of care that is consistent with the medical diagnosis and based on the patient’s changing physical, psychosocial, and age-related requirements.
  • Establishes realistic and measurable goals that are culturally sensitive and identifies nursing interventions to achieve the goals.
  • Practices within the established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides total, direct nursing care consistent with the plan of care and needs of the patients with respect for the patient’s privacy, dignity, personal preference, and culture.
  • Demonstrates priority-setting skills and timeliness in responding to patient needs.
  • Prepares, administers, and documents the administration of oral, parental, and topical medications as prescribed by the physician.  Is knowledgeable of therapeutic effects, usual dosages, contraindications, side effects, and adverse reactions for all drugs and parental fluids administered in.
  • Intervenes appropriately in clinical emergency situations i.e. cardiopulmonary arrest, initiating emergency measures by. Assessing the patient and initiating CPR, if indicated and certified to do so.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and organized environment for the patient/family/visitors and staff.
  • Collaborates with physicians to develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of care for patients under care.
  • Carries out physician’s orders and reviews nursing and medical orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Administers medication following the seven (10) R’s of medication.
  • Constantly and continuously monitors patient for the level of consciousness, vitals signs, and oxygen saturation, during procedure documenting the same inappropriate nursing form where applicable
  • Updates the plan of care to reflect the patient’s current health status and needs.
  • Evaluates and document the patient/family’s understanding and response to the plan of care including teaching and discharge plans.
  • Participates in presenting patient care conferences.
  • Recognizes when patient care needs extend beyond the limits of personal ability and consults appropriate resources.
  • Provides input during the development and review of patient care standards, policies, and procedures and participates in the Interdisciplinary Quality Assessment & Improvement Program.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development and maintains currency in nursing for the area of practice.
  • Uses computer technology as required.
  • Follows infection control guidelines such as proper hand-washing before and after the procedure; standard precautions; proper and safe cleaning of blood, body fluids, and chemical spills; and reporting potential infections to the appropriate authority i.e. Infection Control Nurse.
  • Recognizes and supports patient and family rights by providing within limit accurate and reliable information to patients and family members.
  • Endorses to the next shift complete handover communication to facilitate continuity of care.
  • Documents untoward incidents related to patients or concerned staff and submits the same to his/her head nurse for endorsement to Nursing Administration within 24 hours of its happening.
  • Demonstrates acceptance, caring, and empathy to patients and families.
  • Uses verbal and nonverbal communication that conveys respect for the patient/family/visitor/staff in an accurate, legible, concise, and timely manner.
  • Documents according to SGH policy nursing care activities done to the patient; observed adverse reactions; patient’s response to any treatment.
  • Complies with department dress code.
  • Maintains an acceptable standard of attendance and reports to work on time.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other members of the health care team.
  • Demonstrates support for Nursing Department Philosophy and Objectives.
  • Safely delegates care to non-nursing staff with appropriate supervision.
  • Attends and participates in hospital-wide committees, designated meetings, and quality improvement programs. Performs his/her roles in all emergencies such as fire, disaster, and security risk within the designated area of assignment
  • Assisting Pediatrician to perform initial resuscitation right after birth.
  • Giving immediate nursing care to “well baby” immediately after birth.
  • Giving baths and feeding.
  • Rooming into the mother in the ward where admitted.
  • Providing routine eye, cord, and skin care.
  • Assessing for jaundice.
  • Giving vaccination
  • Safeguarding from falls and possible abduction.
  • Scheduling a visit to the “Well Baby” Clinic.
  • Providing immediate nursing care and follow-up.
  • Connecting monitors to patients under a ventilator, incubator, or phototherapy.
  • Assisting in central line insertion.
  • Assisting in blood exchange.
  • Umbilical cord blood draw
  •  Competent in assisting and performing Newborn procedures and emergency measures.
  • Develop and implement action plans to promote person-centered care in your area. Person-centered care revolves around staff, patients and their families, and the community. At SGH, the person-centered care principles are summarized by the CARE (connect-assist-respect-explain) communication and service standards.
  • Abide by communication and service standards at all times.
  • Attend training and coaching sessions for communication and service standards.
  • Service recovery: offer options and solutions to meet and exceed patient’s expectations. Retaining patients and gaining their loyalty is a key part of your role.
  • Work on improving patient satisfaction in your area.
  • Abide by CARE communication and service standards when interacting with other staff members or with patients and families.
  • Attend CARE training sessions and other training as required

Educational requirements:

  • Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor Degree in Nursing

Experience requirements:

  • 2 years minimum current experience as a Newborn/NICU/PICU in the polyclinic.

Desired Skills:

  • Must be proficient in a wide variety of high-level nursing skills specialized in pediatrics/neonates.
  • Needs to be experts in evaluating intensive care pediatric patients, administering care, recognizing complications, and coordinating with other members of the critical care team.
  • Excels at interpersonal communication, prioritizing tasks, leadership, strategic planning, critical thinking, and decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in a team environment with members of varying skill levels.
  • Highly motivated.
  • Learns quickly.
  • Proficiency in English and Spoken Arabic is desirable.
