Job Title – Staff Nurse – (2200000C) Jobs in Al – Zahra, Jeddah – Saudi Arabia

Responsibilities:

  • Renders safe and effective pharmaceutical service to all clients.
  • Responsible for assigned pharmaceutical inventory items.
  • Charge line items through the Computer Operator who is responsible for entry into the computer.
  • Works independently and responsibly to exercise due care in the dispensing of pharmaceuticals.
  • Performs on shift and is expected to be on call for emergencies as required.
  • Directs and guides Assistant Pharmacists, and related staff.
  • Receives and controls receipts and issuances as applicable and designed by Chief Pharmacist.
  • Assures rotation of stock with special attention to refrigerated and dated items to eliminate therapeutic problems and costly write-offs.
  • Estimates monthly controlled drug requirements and initiates storehouse orders for the area used to be approved by the Supervisor, if assigned as in charge of narcotics and controlled drugs.
  • Compounds and dispenses medications and medical supplies according to Physicians’ prescriptions or in-patient Physicians’ orders.
  • Interprets each prescription before filling it to ascertain if the strength and dosage prescribed are within patient tolerance.
  • Reviews patient profile to check for: Drug vs Drug Interaction; Drug vs Patient Allergies; and Drug vs Patient Diet Restriction and dosage suitability.
  • Advises Physicians of any abnormality in the prescription and/or if the medication prescribed is not available in stock.
  • Resolves discrepancies within the shift and makes a report, if not resolved refers the problem to the Supervisor.
  • Recognizes incompatibility of drugs, and temperature and time liability of extemporaneous preparations.
  • Performs under strict aseptic technique I.V. admixture taking into consideration compatibility of the additives with each other and with the main solution assuring that the prescribed flow rate is within patient tolerance.
  • Assures drug preparation/dispensing in the areas are devoid of all outdated or unusable drugs by frequent inspection of nursing drug cabinets, emergency trays and cupboards, and crash carts.
  • Assigns Assistant Pharmacists and other Pharmacy personnel in the work area and schedules day-to-day work to assure effective manpower utilization and accountability in coordination with Pharmacy Supervisor.
  • Provides work direction to staff assigned under his/her supervision for day-to-day activities with appropriate supervision of prescribed procedures ensuring adherence to and standards are maintained.
  • Reviews Pharmacy records, stock-level inventories, and controlled drug usage patterns; provides drug monitoring; establishes and maintains patient drug profile records; and suggests control when needed.
  • Advises the Supervisor on drug usage fluctuations especially drugs on the critical list.  May, as authorized, make a cash purchase of drugs from the local market.
  • Advises Physicians on equivalents or substitute drugs.
  • Always available to the staff, Physicians, and Nurses to answer their questions on pharmaceuticals and the compounding of special prescriptions.
  • Performs other related duties as may be required by the Supervisor or Chief Pharmacist to effect efficient services.

 

Educational requirements:

  • BSC in Pharmacy, preferably with a master’s degree in Pharmacy Administration.

Experience requirements:

  • Three (3) years as Pharmacist from a reputable hospital or Pharmacy company.

Desired Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of Saudi Government policies and regulations regarding pharmaceuticals.
  • Ability to gain the confidence of and work with all levels in the Medical services, and collaborative departments.
  • Can deal with government authorities with regard to Pharmacy regulatory issues.
  • Proficiency both in English and Arabic is preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in a team environment with members of varying skill levels.
  • Highly motivated.
  • Learns quickly.
