Job Title – Operating Room Head Nurse – (22000010) Jobs in Al-Khuzama – Saudi Arabia

Responsibilities:

  • Performs nursing administrative functions common to Operating Room Nursing Unit either directly or by delegation to assigned service personnel.
  • Contributes to the establishment of Nursing shared mission, vision, and objectives ensuring appropriate and timely communication to the staff under supervision.
  • Solves problems relating to nursing care documenting it accordingly including in the running commentary, if it is involving nursing staff.
  • Responsible for calling the Surgeon to perform the operation after the patient is prepared according to the Operation Schedules.
  • Checks to ensure all instruments for OR use are cleaned and sterilized according to sterilization standards.
  • Takes inventory with the CSSD Head Technician or Officer-In-Charge/ Supervisor to segregate and replace defective instruments in the Operation Room.
  • Develops and maintains professional quality standards and makes recommendations for improvement of such standards.
  • Supports hospital-wide quality management and safety plans by strictly enforcing the hospital’s policies and procedures.
  • Communicates with subordinates, other healthcare team members, and clients in a professional manner.
  • Conducts unit orientation for newly hired nurses received in the unit and evaluates them without bias at least annually and periodically as required.
  • Requests supplies and other required resources ensuring appropriate and efficient utilization and avoiding wastage.
  • Keeps informed of current developments in the field of Operating Room Nursing services and keeps the staff up-to-date on procedures through educational activities, group discussions, lectures, and in-service training.
  • Responsible for the operation of approved curative-preventive programs as they relate to Operating Room Nursing Unit and total patient care.
  • Plans and maintains master work schedules necessary for the required performance of all nurses and support services staff assigned in the Operating Room Nursing Unit including leaves of absence, vacations, holidays, weekend and emergency on-call schedules, and computation of off and overtime balances at the end of the month.
  • Assesses the situation of the Operating Room Nursing Unit equally distributing patient assignments to nurses according to skills and workloads.
  • Ensures patient safety at all times and sees to it that problems presented are attended to in a timely manner, properly documented, and reported to the Nursing Management according to the proper channels of communication.
  • Coordinates with the allied department and gives preference to special endorsement of emergency and critically ill patients for operation.
  • Counter-checks patients’ files to ensure that doctors’ orders are carried-out properly and documentation is done by the assigned nurses and that patients are charged accordingly.
  • Reports to the Operating Room Department Head, Chief Nursing Officer, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer, and  Nursing Supervisors all significant occurrences in the unit.
  • Ensures that the Operating Room Nursing Unit is well equipped with gadgets, machines, instruments, and materials needed in the area; being able to demonstrate to the staff on the proper operation, cleaning, and disinfection of equipment.
  • Reports to Bio-Medical and Maintenace Departments defective equipment and makes follow through until item is returned to the unit.
  • Represents the unit in the department or hospital’s meetings as designated.
  • Conducts unit meetings to tackle issues affecting staff performance and other unit-related concerns in the care of patients admitted to the unit.
  • Performs other duties as designated by the Chief Nursing Officer.
  • Play an active role in Patient and Family Education depending on the patient’s needs.
  • Abide by communication and service standards at all times.
  • Attend training and coaching sessions for communication and service standards.
  • Service recovery: offer options and solutions to meet and exceed patient’s expectations. Retaining patients and gaining their loyalty is a key part of your role.
  • Work on improving patient satisfaction in your area.
  • Develop and implement action plans to promote person-centered care in your area. Person-centered care revolves around staff, patients and their families, and the community. At SGH, the person-centered care principles are summarized by the CARE (connect-assist-respect-explain) communication and service standards.
  • Abide by CARE communication and service standards when interacting with other staff members or with patients and families
  • Attend CARE training sessions and other training as required
  • Service recovery: offer options and solutions to meet and exceed patient’s expectations. Retaining patients and gaining their loyalty is a key part of your role.

Educational requirements:

  • Graduate of BS or diploma in Nursing; master’s degree in Nursing Administration is preferred.

Experience requirements:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of nursing experience plus three (3) years in a head nurse or unit manager position specializing in an Anaesthesia Nursing Unit or related specialty.

Desired Skills:

  • Basic equipment for nursing care and equipment specific to Operating Room, CPR.
  • The ability of critical thinking. Excellent managerial, communication, and clinical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and good leadership qualities.
  • Proficiency in English and Spoken Arabic is desirable.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in a team environment with members of varying skill levels.
  • Highly motivated.
  • Learns quickly.
